My name is Niki Erskine Kirby and I am a 30yr old wife and mommy to 2 crazy kids. It’s been 6 months since my son Jude was born and I still have some baby weight to shed and a lot to de-jiggle. (Full disclosure I still had some to lose from after the birth of my 4 yr old daughter!) This week I have officially started my 10-20-30 Pilates challenge (or as I like to refer to it, the “anti-mom jeans body” challenge) at Align Pilates Studio. I’ve always been pretty active but 2 kids+ very little spare time or sleep has resulted in me carrying around an extra pesky 5-10 pounds and a lot more flab. I huff and puff like a chain smoker (which I am not) going up a flight of stairs and my wimpy spaghetti arms tire out after about 3 minutes of carting around my son Jude (aka “Java the Hut” aka “The world’s chunkiest 6 month old”) I don’t have time to do much more then 3 workouts a week and so I need them to really count. Over the years I’ve done various types of exercise but have really felt like lately I need to change up my routine. After a friend told me she was going to try Align Pilates, I decided to give it a go myself. The closest thing I’ve done to pilates is yoga and so I was curious to see how different it was. After reaching out to Loralee, the owner, she suggested that if I really wanted to see a change in my body I should participate in their 10-20-30 challenge (Based on the quote above from Joseph Pilates, founder of Pilates method). A whole new body sounded pretty good to me so 30 sessions it is! I also decided that I would document my progress throughout the challenge to see my progress but also to be held accountable.. I have a tendency to set unrealistic goals which I always seem to fall short on. Three days a week is totally do-able though! Ten weeks from now I will look like Jessica Alba, both kids will be sleeping until at least 9 amevery morning and my house will be spotless and uber-organized! (Hey a girl can dream right?!?) Here’s to a new me in 10 short weeks!
Check back to see how my first class went!
